I first found out about author signing events in 2017 and decided to volunteer. Being at the events earlier than everyone, and helping various authors bring in their things or set up their tables, let me hear their conversations. “What did you bring for SWAG?” was a reoccurring question. I’d hear things like “I wish I had buttons for this release but you have to order soooo many!” I wondered what I could do to help these wonderful, struggling artists that had captured my heart.
A quick internet search showed that along with having to order huge lots of products, there were also set up fees. It didn’t seem fair. What if someone wanted a limited number of something to use as a pre-order prize or something special for a raffle basket?
The turning point came when an author fan group I was a part of decided they were going to get buttons so that we could recognize each other at signings. I’ll spare you the details, but things didn’t go well. I volunteered to take over the project from the original lady when it looked like it was going to get ugly. Instead of ordering the buttons from some internet company, I bought a button machine and produced them myself. I lost quite a bit on that venture, but the fans were happy and that was what mattered most.
Dragonheart Swag was born on April 20, 2018. I learned that I could make buttons, magnets, keychains, and mirrors with my button machine. I bought a second machine in a different size, allowing me to make even more. Over the years, I’ve branched out beyond just the buttons, but they are still my favorite thing to produce. Since I added a vinyl cutting machine to the growing list of tools, there has been no stopping me. I learned to make can koozies, coffee mugs, t-shirts, and tote bags. I love putting designs on specialty items for unique gifts, prizes and giveaways (flasks, wine charms, and tumblers to name a few).
While you will find some pre-made items for sale on this website, most of what I make is customized for the client. I’m always looking for the next thing to add to my array of products. If you want to know what that next thing is when I find it…sign up to receive my newsletter.
